OTLEY AC’s impressive Junior section had an excellent weekend which included fun in the Wakefield mud and a brush with a running legend in Birmingham.
A large contingent of young runners made the journey to Thornes Park to compete in the first cross country meeting of the West Yorkshire League and came away with some impressive results, especially considering all the youngsters were at the bottom of their age categories.
In the under-11s category Ned Gallagher-Thompson finished 36th and Alfie Milner 65th in the boys’ race while Kitty Quinn (29th), Jess Kelly (33rd), Charlotte Chambers(34th) and Ellie Hinton(40th) all ran well for the girls.
Isaac and Rhys Wytchard came 46th and 57th respectively in the under-13 boys’ race and Charlotte Rawstron and Sadie Bentham both ran really strong races to finish in the top 20 for the girls.
At the Great Birmingham Junior runs there was more success for Otley’s Juniors.
Jenson Brogden was sixth overall, Holly Davey reached the podium with her third place finish and Aston Brogden was second in the nine to 11 age race
There was a rewarding moment for the youngsters when Olympian Liz McColgan praised them on their running technique.
