LITTLE Harry Hepworth proved to be the lord of the ring in the British Under-14 Gymnastics Championships.

The 13-year- Old Prince Henry's Grammar School pupil was crowned British rings champion as he came third overall.

He was also second in the vault and on the parallel bars, an outstanding performance against a quality field of 58 gymnasts.

Hepworth also competed in the English Gymnastics Championships at Loughborough University.

Despite suffering from tonsillitis he still managed to compete, finishing a credible seventh overall.

He was third on rings and floor against the same strong competition as in the British Championships.

It has been a busy schedule of competitions since September 2016 and the focus turns back now to developing skills over the summer in preparation for the competitions starting again in September.

Hepworth, who lives in Cookridge and trains at the Leeds Gymnastics Club under the guidance of Dave Murray, continues to attend GB squad training camps at Lilleshall National Sporting Centre.

The next one is at the end of the month with further camps being held until the end of the year.

These are all four-day events and it is thanks to the support from Prince Henry's School that he is permitted to attend some in term time.

Hepworth recently featured in one of Nile Wilson's Gymnastics Challenges, a series of YouTube videos in which the 2016 Olympic high bar bronze medallist takes on other gymnasts in a series of gruelling tests including rope climbs, handstand competitions and other strength-sapping tasks.
