SHAYAN Siraj picked up some good victories at the prestigious Junior National Cup but was unable to threaten the medal positions.
The Bramhope youngster was seeded fifth for the competition, which sees the top ten players in the junior national rankings play each other on a round-robin basis.
He was put on the back foot by two early defeats to players ranked above him, and ended the first day with just one win from five matches.
His second day was much better as he won two and was narrowly beaten 4-3 in a third, as well as going down to undefeated champion Tom Jarvis, meaning he ended in eighth place with three wins.
“Overall, I didn’t play too bad but I lost my focus in some matches and that’s why I didn’t finish as high as I was expected to,” said Siraj, 15. “It’s a tough tournament.”
