JONNY Brownlee has made it a nap hand of Chevin Chase titles.

The 26-year-old Bingley Harrier won the Boxing Day event by seven seconds in 38min 27sec from Tom Adams of Ilkley Harrier.

Brownlee's previous wins were in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 and he has now equalled his double-Olympic champion brother Alistair's tally of five wins in the event – 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2014.

Jonny, who took the silver medal behind his sibling at this year's Rio Olympics, has also been second to elder brother Alistair four times (2007, 2008, 2009 and 2014).

Afterwards the younger of the Bramhope-based Brownlee brothers tweeted: "Always fun to run off the turkey at the Chevin Chase. Had to work hard for the win."

With Olympic triathlon silver and bronze medallist Brownlee and recent Stoop winner Adams dominating the race, Chester parkrun specialist Chris Smithard (Hallamshire) was a distant third, 97 seconds behind.

John Franklin (Serpentine) was fourth in 40min 31sec, with Ilkley Harriers' Jack Wood – winner of the Full Tour of Pendle last month – fifth, three seconds further back.

Rounding out the top ten were Chris Miller (Harrogate) in 41:38, Leeds-based Mark Smith in 41:51, Sheffield's Mark Franklin in 42:08, Skipton's Julian Hood in 42:58 and Baildon's Quentin Lewis in 43:06.

The latter runner was also the first men's veteran 40 home, with Will Kerr (Saltaire Striders) coming second a place behind in 11th in 43:17, while Hood was the leading men's 35 veteran.

First woman home, in 63rd overall, was Ilkley Harrier Pauline Munro in 48min 33sec, who also took the women's 45 category, with the other women's podium places being filled by Horsforth's Ruth Moran, 81st in 49:29, and Pudsey Pacers' Michelle Tenwick, 124th in 51:30.

Other men's category winners were Altrincham's David Cowlishaw (men's 45, 15th overall in 43:54), Leeds Bradford Triathlon Club's Tim Ashelford, a former Ilkley Harrier (men's 50, 25th overall in 45:30), Wrekin's Stephen Low (men's 55, 74th overall in 49:14) and Dave Burdon (men's 60-plus, 197th overall in 54:31).

Women's category victors were Baildon Runners' Emma Stoney (women's 35, 158th overall in 53:18), Nidd Valley Road Runners' Carol Morgan (women's 40, 140th overall in 52:24), triathlete Sarah Gill (women's 50, 214th overall in 55:02), Jo Haigh (women's 55, 311th overall in 58:11) and Idle AC's Anastasia Lincoln (women's 60 plus, 376th overall in 1:00:02).

Chevin Chase press officer Mike Jarvis (Airecentre Pacers) said: "Last year we had that torrential downpour on the day but in the cold and very blustery conditions this year, the runners said that it was just as challenging running downhill on the exposed sections of the Chevin.

"The entries were taken up in about four-and-a-half hours when they went live but we still had 981 finishers from an entry that was probably slightly in excess of 1,000."
