LAST weekend’s Dewsbury 10k was the big road event for Otley AC members looking to test their early-season form, with Scott Harrington the highest placed, coming sixth in 32:42.

Mark Hall was next up in 30th place in 35:00 to take the MV55 prize, shaving 10 seconds off his club record, while Peter Crowder came home in 39:03.

Howard Jeffrey finished in 44:08 while Phil Robinson, aiming for a sub-50:00 arrived in 49:37; Charlotte Tomlinson recorded 51:15, Gemma Harrington got a personal best with her 51:57, while Andrew Rayner came home in 52:37 and Emma Thomson in 57:28.

The winner was Mohamed Abu-Rezeq in 30:06 and the first lady in 16th overall was Charlene Thomas (Wakefield Harriers) in 33:33.

The 23-mile Rombalds Stride took place in Saturday’s wind and rain but that didn’t deter a strong showing from Otley runners. Results are awaited.

In the Meltham Tough 10k, near Holmfirth, Phil Robinson finished in 54:50 to take the MV70 prize. He said: “At 9:30am it was two degrees with drizzly sleet, but conditions were apparently much better than last year when several competitors were hospitalised with hypothermia.

“I was glad to have full body cover unlike a rugged few in singlets and skimpy shorts. The route is just a series of climbs and descents, so for me it was into survival mode from the off, trying to avoid black thoughts while grinding slowly up the hills.

“The last exhilarating mile, all downhill, cleared the cobwebs and put a smile back on almost everyone’s face.”

The winner was Matthew Pierson (Stainland Lions) in 34:26 and the first lady in 17th place overall was Christina Singleton (Trawden AC) in 40:33.

In the Muddy Boots 10k, in Ripon, Ged Peacock finished in 57:43, Nicky Gifford in 1:03:36, Justina Stringer in 1:08:41 and Gloria Jackson in 1:12:53.
