A MINUTE’S silence was held at Yeadon-Guiseley Club’s Dob Park trial on Sunday to honour the popular Denholme official, Renee Smith, who died last week, aged 89.

Renee had observed motorcycle trials in Yorkshire with her friend Margaret Spencer for many years and was active right up until recently.

She officiated at all trials and in all weathers, from club status to national championship events.

Her knowledge on the current trials scene was extensive. She knew all the riders and they knew her.

Renee, who was living in a home in Denholme, leaves a daughter, Donna, and son Dane.

Her funeral will be at Nab Wood Crematorium on Monday, December 1 (2pm). Any donations will go towards British Heart Foundation and Age Concern UK.

East Morton landlord Martin Crosswaite ran rings round his rivals at Dob Park for the second time in seven days.

The former youth trials star and adult expert won the seventh round of Yeadon-Guiseley Club’s championship series from Ashby de la Zouch teenager Luke Walker and experienced Beta UK contender Dan Hemingway.

For the latter, it was a close call as he was taken to a tiebreaker decider over Truro British Class B youth trials champion Toby Martyn.

The class winners on the hard route were Guiseley’s Joe Jennings and Lothersdale teenager Nathan Parker. Huddersfield’s Andrew Jackson headed Clubman A from Shipley’s Paul Gravestock, while Barnsley builder William Wood finished ahead of Cullingworth sidecar ace Robin Luscombe.
