LIZZIE Armitstead is returning to Glasgow in January.

The Otley cyclist, who won the Commonwealth Games road race crown at the venue, is taking part in the fourth round of the Revolution Series – the United Kingdom's premier elite track series – in the Scottish city.

Olympic champion Dame Sarah Storey is another leading contender at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome on Saturday, January 31.

It will be the first major cycling event there since the Commonwealth Games and Armitstead is looking forward to the challenge.

"I'm excited to be returning to Glasgow after the amazing memories this summer at the Commonwealth Games," she said.

"This time it will be on the track and I'm looking forward to racing at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. I was there last season commentating on the TV, so it will be good to be part of the action this time round."

Armitstead will not only face tough competition from world and paralympic champion Storey, who won the points race at the National Track Championships in September when beating Laura Trott, Elinor Barker and Katie Archibald by more than 20 points.

Storey and Armitstead join national sprint champion Callum Skinner in racing for Scottish Team Rigmar in the Glasgow line-up, with more star riders to be announced in coming weeks.

The 12th season of the Revolution Series kicked off with round one at the Lee Valley VeloPark, where Trott defeated Marianne Vos for the women's omnium title.

Jamie Ridehalgh and Jess Roberts won the points races.
