OTLEY AC had a fantastic weekend with the club well represented in numerous events and producing some fantastic performances.

This Halloween saw the return of the Chevin Chiller, a night time 6.7km run around Danefield Woods.

Callum Martin and his mum Laura Martin braved the dark and enjoyed a well organised and friendly race. Callum was first junior and 20th over the line in 37:54 minutes.

Laura was first female in the V45 category and 21st overall in 37:55. The winner was Adrian Kennedy from Horsforth Fellandale in 31:20 and first lady was Carol Morgan from Nidd Valley Runners 15th in 35:29.

Five Otley members ventured to Lumbutts on Saturday for the Shepherds Skyline Fell Race.

The first back for Otley was Matt John in fourth place with a time of 44:17.

He was followed by Sam Stell in 13th 47:50, John Dade finished in 65:17, Bob Baker 67:14, and Don Buffham 94:34. The winner was Ben Mounsey (Calder Valley) in 41:20 and the first lady in 37th place overall was Gayle Sugden (Calder Valley) in 52:51.

The annual Guy Fawkes 10 was well supported by Otley AC. Conditions were near perfect for racing, and Scott Harrington stormed away from 814 others to win the race in 57:00.

The first lady was Lindsey Clegg (Horsforth Harriers) who came 51st in 1:08:53. Mark Hall was fourth (first MV50) in 59:49 and Rogan Ashton came in 27th (1:05:20), meaning Otley took the second team prize. Jane Butler led the Otley ladies home in 1:31:04.

Also running for Otley were Neil Charlton (1:11:08), Howard Jeffery (1:13:40), Andrew Raynor (1:27:08), John Cowan (1:32:12), Julie Dorling (1:37:55), Laura Hind (1:39:15), Joanna Hobson (1:42:04), Hannah Mallinson (1:42:23) and Debra Brown (1:48:23).

Sunday was also the second race in this year’s West Yorkshire Cross Country League at West Park. Otley had two in the top ten, with Ian Fisher coming fifth in 27:58 and Frank Beresford tenth in 28:33.

Liam Dunne (22nd in 29:36), Andrew Robertshaw (25th in 29:51), Robin Outtersides (61st in 31:23), Graham Lake (98th in 33:07), Stephen Boddy (168th in 39:10) and Antonio Cardinale (188th in 55:29) completed the Otley contingent.

Sunday saw the second running of the White Rose Ultra Marathon. The race started in Marsden and took in part of the Peak District before going over to West Huddersfield from where the race looped back to Marsden.

This 30-mile multi-terrain event was to be the first ultra marathon for the three Otley members. First home for Otley were Lisa Maughan and Sara Richard in about 6hrs 35mins, with Sean O’Halloran finishing in approximately 7hrs 35mins.
