Otley’s Caroline Marler won two gold medals and helped set a world recordfor Great Britain in the European Indoor Masters Championships, in San Sebastian, Spain.

Now her next target is the World Veterans Championships, in Porto Allegre, Brazil in October.

Marler won the W60 400metres, was part of the winning GB 4x200m relay team which set a new world record and she was third in the 800m.

Marler said: “Despite running a poorly-paced race, starting too fast and fading badly, I hung on to win the W60 400m in 71:42, beating Ulrike Heltscher from Germany into second place (72:04) and Anna Michelettie from Italy into third place (72:76).

“Nancy Hitchmough from GB won the 800m in 2:41.30, an Italian runner was second and I was third in 2:51.58.”

She added: “On the final day I anchored the women's 60 4x200m team to a very good win against Italy, Spain and Germany.

“We also beat the world record for this age group which had been set by a previous GB team, running about a second faster in 2:10.44.”

The previous week Marler had successfully defended her women’s 60 Indoor 400m title at Lee Valley Stadium, in London.

She ran a second faster than last year breaking her own British record with a time of 70:26, and the following day was second in the 800m to the indoor world record holder, Nancy Hitchmough, in 2:50.72.
