Aireborough and Nunroyd Sports Association reckon they have seen the light after a £50,000 award from Sport England’s Olympic Legacy Fund.

The money will go towards the £55,000 cost of creating a new floodlit grass training area at Yeadon’s Nunroyd Park.

“We are delighted,” said project organiser Richard Holds- worth.

“We got notice that we were getting the money before Christmas, and all the hard work in getting it was down to Aireborough Rugby Club’s chairman Jack Osborn, who tragically died just after Christmas.”

The grass floodlit area will be sited on the left-hand side of the running track beyond the all-weather pitch.

“Previously we have had to pack in training when it has got dark, but this will make a huge difference – not only to our senior rugby players but also to our junior set-up,” added Holdsworth.
