Despite their position at the bottom of the Women’s National Conference North, Ben Rhydding are feeling positive about the relegation battle they find themselves embroiled in.

Their campaign resumes on Sunday after a two-month break when they visit a Doncaster side two places above them in the table.

Captain Jodie Bridger said: “It’s a bit like two different seasons and we’re certainly feeling good going into the second half of the season.”

Ben Rhydding currently have two points from their ten matches, scoring only nine goals, but Bridger says they have identified the Doncaster encounter as one of their “winnable fixtures.”

“We’re feeling quietly confident about the rest of the season. We’ve brought a couple of players in and we’ve been training hard over the winter,” she said.

“Everyone’s got a buzz about them and we’ve even got a new kit so we can’t wait to get out there,” said Bridger.

After the “massive high” of last year, when the ladies won the North Premier League with a goal difference of over a hundred and the three top goalscorers in the division, the reduced circumstances of this year have taken some getting used to.

Bridger said: “Obviously the table doesn’t paint a great picture, but there have been some good performances and we’ve had some bad luck. We’ve had some problems with switching off in some games which is something we’ve got to look at.

“I think we’ve actually coped well with the step up, which is massive. Some of the players we’ve played this year have Olympic medals which tells you just how high the standard is.”

Ben Rhydding will be hoping to reap the rewards of the hard yards put in over the last two months.

With all four of their upcoming fixtures against the other sides in the bottom half of the table, they have a great chance to put their season back on track.
