Wolfsburg missed the chance to move further clear of relegation trouble as they were held at home by Augsburg in a game that ended 10-a-side.
A 0-0 draw extended the hosts’ unbeaten Bundesliga run to three games, but they sit just three points above third-bottom Mainz after failing to take advantage of Jan Moravek’s dismissal early in the second half.
Felix Uduokhai was then sent off with four minutes left after the Wolves had missed a host of chances to take all three points.
A low-key encounter came to life in the second period. Augsbug’s Jonathan Schmid forced a fine save from Koen Casteels, but the visitors soon were down to 10 men as Moravek was booked twice in quick succession.
On-loan Liverpool striker Divock Origi forced a save from Marwin Hitz, while at the other end Marco Richter hit the crossbar.
Paul Jaeckel then struck the bar for the hosts, while Origi headed a good chance wide before Uduokhai’s second booking evened up the numbers.
