HALIFAX Direct suffered their first defeat in 11 matches in the A Division of the Dales Council League, but ironically the five points that they gained at Thornbury were enough to give them the title.

Direct made only 100 as Usmat Munir took 5-38, and Thornbury trioumphed by four wickets for their first victory in six games.

There was no joy either for second-placed Crompark, whose visitors New Wortley made 143 before dismissing the hosts for 105 (Jamil Ahmed 6-28) at High Royds.

At Smithy Lane, Cookridge scored 137 (Ajay Kamboj 6-24) before bowling out Leeds Sikh for 124 and, in a weekend of surprise results,  Caribbean made 208 at Tong, of which Wesley Bell scored a mammoth 164.

But bottom side Farnley Hill knocked off the runs for the loss of six wickets, chiefly thanks to 99 not out from skipper Gethin Clarke.

At Meanwood Road, Woodhouse made 231 before bowling out Bradford Moor for 109.

B Division leaders Savile Stars got back to winning ways at Sands Lane, scoring 202-9 (Owaiz Patel 63) before castling Pudsey Congs for only 68.

Third-placed Thornbury B made 201 at Sandal, Abbas Ali scoring 77. before dismissing Baildon for 157.

Morley won a low-scoring match at Gledhow by five wickets after toppling Leeds Sikh B for 94, while it was the same story at Fulneck as Pudsey St Lawrence struggled against the bowling of Kanhu Charan Pattnayak (6-15) in being dismissed for 87, Adel winning by nine wickets.

In C Division, Baildon B conceded to leaders Halifax Direct B, while the clubs in joint second met at Station Road.

Drighlington B racked up 271-6 (Ashfaq Sheikh 101, Andrew Cheeseman 62) before bowling out Cookridge B for 174 (Shaz Akbar 85).

Fourth-placed St Chads Broomfield were at Low Springs, dismissing Tong Park Esholt for 132 (Andrew Wilkinson 5-28) before replying with 133-4 to gain maximum points.

Shipley Providence scored 189-7 at Scott Hall Oval, with Leeds Caribbean B replying with 191-7.
