THORNBURY, A Division runners-up last season, have made a winning start to their Dales Council League campaign as they bid to go one better.

They dismissed Farnley Hill for 169 (Waqas Abbas 5-44) at Daleside Road before the prolific Abdul Halim scored 62 to help them to a five-wicket win.

B Division runners-up Crompark were in a hurry at High Royds.

They bowled out Cookridge for 139 before Ali Malik smashed an unbeaten 88 out of 143-2 in 20 overs.

Last season's B Division champions Caribbean also started with a win, dismissing Bradford Moor for 137 before Abid Hussain scored 74 to carry them to a four-wicket win.

At Gledhow, champions Halifax Direct made 229 (M Chaand 53, G Suryavansi 6-54) before bowling out Leeds Sikh for 169, while New Wortley could only make 104 at Meanwood Road against Woodhouse, who triumphed by five wickets.

Leeds Road staged a battle between C Division winners Morley and relegated Pudsey Congs in B Division, and it was Congs who were smiling afterwards, castling Morley for 75 before cantering to a seven-wicket victory.

Promoted Farsley fared much better, scoring 178-8 (Ryan Blackburn 53) at Fulneck before bowling out St Lawrence for 113.

At Sandal, Leeds Sikh B racked up 193 against Baildon, who were routed for 62, while relegated Drighlington made 197 at Station Road before bowling out ten-man Thornbury B for 135.

Savile Stars made a modest 105 (Rob Mills 5-16) at Sands Lane, but Adel also struggled with the bat, replying with 84.

League newcomers St Chad's Broomfield certainly enjoyed themselves, notching 288 (Nazmul Hasan 75, Paul Scantlebury 51) at Smithy Lane before dismissing Cookridge C for 113 in C Division.

At Karmand, 96 from Bhaven Mistry helped Drighlington B to a useful 235 but, despite 59 from Waseem Khan, Halifax Direct B could only muster 94.

Baildon B conceded to Shipley Providence, while on Sunday, relegated Tong Park Esholt made 171 at Low Springs, 54 from Mohammed Junaid helping Caribbean B to 172-8 and a two-wicket victory.
