James Walshaw scored the match-winning goal
Guiseley 1 Stalybridge Celtic 0
A late goal from substitute James Walshaw was enough to earn Guiseley another home victory on Tuesday night but not enough to take them back to the summit.
The three points for the Lions keeps them on the tail of Brackley, who won 2-1 at home to Histon.
It was a real battle against Stalybridge, who were in eighth place going into the game.
The goalless first half saw few real chances but into the second half Josh Wilson hit a post when one-on-one with the visitors’ keeper before Lions boss Steve Kitterick made changes.
Walshaw and Gavin Rothery were sent on from the bench and it was the latter who went close first.
He was picked out by Andy Holdsworth’s through ball but volleyed over when well placed. Walshaw settled it with the only goal of the game six minutes from time.
