It's final day agony for Yeadon

There was heartache for Yeadon on the final day of the JCT600 Bradford League Division Two season.

The team who had set the pace for much of the campaign lost by six wickets at Morley and missed out on promotion.

Yeadon went to Scatcherd Lane knowing that 16 points would enable them to take the Division Two title.

But their defeat not only meant that Baildon were crowned as champions, it also saw Morley pip them for the second promotion spot.

It was a sad end to what has been a promising season for Yeadon. Losing the toss was to prove crucial as their batsmen struggled in tricky conditions.

Spinners Kashif Naveed (3-31) and Dave Nebard (3-40) ensured that Yeadon’s scoring was kept in check.

Callum Goldthorp (37) top scored, but it was an indication of how tough run scoring was that it took him 112 balls Their total of 127 was insufficient and Morley eased home with 14 balls to spare after their skipper Matthew Baxter made an unbeaten 59.

When Damon Gormley (3-17) reduced Morley 36-4, there was a flicker of hope for Yeadon, but once Baxter took charge, it was extinguished.

One crumb of comfort for Yeadon is that Gormley has topped the league bowling averages again.
