Last-wicket pair snatch victory at Guiseley

Thackley overcame Guiseley in an Aire-Wharfe League Division One match with plenty of twists and turns.

Guiseley recovered from 42-5 to 126 mainly thanks to No7 Harrison Durkin (31) with Mahir Ali and Shane Marshall each picking up three cheap wickets. Thackley then crashed to 9-3, and after a recovery, lost their eighth and ninth wickets on 95 and needed a last-wicket stand of 32 between Nasser Jamal (37no) and Marshall (4no) to clinch the six points.

As well as the exciting finish at Nethermoor there were a number of shock results as the sun at last made a belated appearance.

The biggest upset was third from bottom Bilton completing the double over leaders Collingham, which should have opened the door for Steeton to go back to the top. But they went down to their first defeat, beaten by 38 runs at Follifoot despite the efforts of Mark Taylor (54) and Stephen Pearson (4-25).

Charlie Swallow was another player to produce a fine display in vain, following up his 47 with a 4-24 spell but unable to prevent Beckwithshaw easing past Ben Rhydding by four wickets to go level on points with Steeton, just two points behind Collingham.

David Brook (58) and Ryan Cooper (48) put on 92 for the fourth wicket as Burley reached 224-8 before Daniel Meredith (5-33) starred as bottom club Adel were dismissed for 114. Ricky Halloran (5-64) also produced a match-winning spell, restricting Kirkstall to 161-9, a total Otley passed with two wickets and one over remaining, Stewart Smith top scoring on 40.

Joe Loorham (86no) was the star as Rawdon beat Upper Wharfedale by six wickets and extended their lead at the top of Division Two to three points.

Of the chasing pack, Pool only managed four points at North Leeds, as did Harden at Bardsey. Richard Wear continued his fine form with 73 of Harden’s 180 but a gutsy 41no from Tom Franklin allowed Bardsey’s last pair to hang on for the draw.

Davin Charleston hit a half century in Green Lane’s 173-9. Calverley were never on target to win but with Jonathan Hudson unbeaten on 25, they managed to pick up a point, leaving Lane in fourth place, five points behind the leaders.

Chris Spivey picked up four wickets for the second week in a row, restricting Ilkley to 176-9 in which Alex Bailey and Nick Cockcroft hit half centuries.

But having skittled out Knares- borough last week for 37, it was Bolton Villas turn to struggle, Richard Harrison (5-8) and Jeremy Batty (3-3) seeing them off for 45. Chris Wheeler (51) and Geoff Barker (41) were the top scorers in Olicanian’s 171-6 but Knaresborough eased home by six wickets.

Horsforth can take some consolation from taking a point off Division Three runaway leaders Colton and restricting them to 179-8, their lowest score when batting first, Jonathan Wiggan picking up 4-30.

Tong Park Esholt remain second after picking up five points at Skipton, Darren Wilson (80) and Gareth Wilkinson (55) starring in their 216-5 while Rob Walker (33) and Luke Facey (29) helped the home side earn a draw.

Mark Scaife (6-27) and Ally Walshaw (3-45) dismissed Silsden for 141 before Walshaw (40) and Peter Kempton (47) secured Hall Park’s victory.

Kyle Smith (41) and Chris Baldwin (33) led Menston’s chase of Illingworth’s 165-9 but they fell 14 short of victory and dropped from third to fifth.

Addingham notched their second successive win, beating Woodhouse by 15 runs. Will Atkins (44) top scored in their 198. Joe Midgley, Jonny Johnson and Rory Stead each took three wickets to clinch the win.
