Rawdon go top as Doidge sends Calverley spinning to another defeat

Andrew Doidge sent struggling Calverley spinning to defeat as Rawdon went back to the top of the Aire-Wharfe League Division Two.

Doidge, who had taken 6-27 when the sides met earlier in the season, took 6-24 this time as Calverley were bowled out for 76 in reply to Rawdon’s 192-7.

Calverley simply had no answer to the spinner in his 12-over spell.

The one bright spot for Calverley was the performance of Naveed Panesar. He took 5-27 – his second five-wicket haul – in the Rawdon innings.

Teenage batsman Ben Morley, who made 151 not out for the league’s Joe Lumb side last week, top scored with 48 while Matthew Mc-Callum (47) and Tony Gilks (42) were the other main contributors for Rawdon.

Rawdon’s win saw them back to the top for the first time since mid-May and they received a little assistance from one of their former players in doing so.

Jeremy Batty (47) starred as Ilkley restricted overnight previous leaders Pool to two points.

Harden kept up their promotion chase by beating lowly Upper Wharfedale by six wickets after bowling them out for 92.

Green Lane dropped back after they were only able to set a target of 125-9, which North Leeds passed with five wickets to spare.

Olicanian are deep in that mire but raised hopes of a great escape when they took two points off Bardsey – their first points from anything other than abandonments this season.

Chasing Bardsey’s 194, Olicanian reached178-8 thanks to 39 not out from No 7 Ben Brearley.

Otley’s Matthew O’Grady hit an unbeaten 63 as his side hung on to take a point off Division One leaders Collingham, which al-owed second-placed Steeton to move within two points of top spot.

Craig Walton (48) and David Wildsmith (47) led the way in Steeton’s 202 but the hero of the day was opening bowler Richard Craddock, who took 6-40 as Kirkstall were dismissed for 182.

Beckwithshaw remain six points behind Steeton after a comfortable win at Thackley. Redmond Bolton (94) and Charlie Swallow (7-27) starred as second-from-bottom Ben Rhydding moved level on points with opponents Bilton, the side just above them in the table.

Burley were struggling at 56-3 against Guiseley but recovered to make 236-5 thanks to Ryan Cooper, who hit 99 not out in 82 balls,Ed Brown (51) and Charlie Davy (33).

In contrast, Guiseley made a storming start with Dave Pennett (62) and Charlie Best (79) taking them to 144-1. But then Nick Brook (5-21) got to work and Guiseley’s last pair had to see off the final three balls to salvage a draw. Tong Park Esholt boosted their Division Three promotion hopes with a 140-run win over Horsforth.

Darren Wilson (72no) and AJ Weerapuli (62) helped them to 207-4 before Brett Kinsey (5-26) skittled out Horsforth for 67, Ian Stephens hitting 45 in 46 balls. Gareth Lee (6-47) and John Storey (4-46) bowled out Woodhouse for 175 but Menston’s promotion charge stalled when they were dismissed for 161, despite Kyle Smith’s 91 not out.

Addingham notched their second win of the season, Ricky Palacio (5-30) and Joe Midgley (5-36) dismissing New Rover for 89 in reply to 175-8, while Skipton picked up a first win in the battle of the bottom two at Alwoodley But there was no joy for Hall Park, bowled out for 91 after runaway leaders Colton made 221-8.
