A last-gasp goal from Matt Wilson in last night’s Blue Square North Division play-off semi-final first leg at Nuneaton Town snatched Guiseley a dramatic draw and means everything is still to play for in Sunday’s second leg clash at Nether-moor.
The home side caught the Lions cold when they took a lead just into the second minute, Danny Glover heading in.
It was a game of few chances, with Andy Holdsworth’s header to a Ciaran Toner cross and a Simon Baldry shot being the only real efforts Guiseley produced in the first half.
It was just as nip and tuck after the break, with the visitors only threatening twice before their late equaliser.
Danny Boshell placed a shot just over the target in the 68th minute and skipper Simon Ainge headed a late Holdsworth corner just wide.
Into the final minute, substitute Mark Senior turned provider with a cross that Wilson tucked in from close range.
It will be a tense afternoon on Sunday as both semi-finals ended all-square with FC Halifax Town also coming from behind to grind out a first-leg stalemate.
The Shaymen were 2-0 down at Gainsborough Trinity inside 12 minutes after a rapid brace from Paul Connor.
They hit back through Lee Gregory just before the break, and the same man netted the leveller six minutes from time.
It was a nightmare start for the Shaymen when Connor took advantage of Halifax’s inability to defend set-pieces by sweeping home Luke Waterfall’s header across goal.
Moments later, he scored a carbon-copy effort to put Trinity two ahead, this time finishing from Andrew Boyce’s nod back.
Top scorer Gregory brought the visitors to within one at the deficit when he headed home James Dean’s cross.
The striker then made the most of a disastrous sliced clearance by goalkeeper Jason White to slot home, and almost got a winner as he latched on to Ryan Toulson's clearance before firing narrowly wide.
The result sets up an exciting clash in the reverse fixture on Sunday, with Halifax having the home advantage.
