Boston United 3, Guiseley 3

Guiseley’s final game of the regular Blue Square Bet North season may have held little significance for them but they refused to be beaten and netted a late leveller to gain a point at Boston United.

There was nothing other than pride at stake for the Lions as they had already secured runners-up spot and pole position for the play-offs.

Other results on the day had more riding on them and it was confirmed that Guiseley will face Nuneaton Town in the two-legged semi-final.

Despite not needing anything from Saturday’s trip to Boston, and boss Steve Kittrick resting some of his players, the Lions still battled back from 2-0 and 3-1 down to come away with a draw.

They had created the few early chances before Boston took the lead through former Bantams forward Spencer Weir-Daley on the quarter-hour mark.

The Lions suffered another blow when Marc Newsham doubled the hosts’ advantage just minutes before the break.

It got worse for Kittrick’s blood pressure when his side failed to convert an early second-half penalty after Andy Holdsworth had been brought down. Simon Baldry stepped forward but his effort was foiled by a fine save.

Chris Senior finally cut the deficit in the 54th minute but James Reed restored Boston’s two-goal cushion.

However, the Lions were far from finished and Senior netted his second goal before Matt Wilson fired in a superb 20-yard strike three minutes from time.
