Wetherby 4 Otley Town 1

Ilkley Town were knocked off the top of the Premier Division as they were made to pay for a lack-lustre performance.

The result dropped them to third place – two points behind new leaders Knaresborough who they face at the Old Showfield on Saturday.

Town will need to play better than they did against Wetherby.

Both sides had early chances and Otley felt they were denied a penalty when they were awarded a free kick just outside the penalty area after Paul Harrison was brought down.

The resulting free kick was hit over and from the restart Wetherby opened the scoring.

Quick play saw the wetherby forward break from the right and hit his shot between Gavin Phillis and the post to make it 1-0.

Wetherby increased their lead when they capitalised on bad defending.

Before half-time Wetherby added a third goal.

Town were give a stern half-time talking to but it didn’t appear to make much difference as Wetherby added a fourth goal.

Town scored a consolation through Harrison, and although they hit the post, Wetherby were clear winners on a day Otley will want to forget.
