Guiseley 1 Eastwood Town 2

Guiseley suffered a surprise home defeat to strugglers Eastwood Town on a frustrating afternoon at Nethermoor.

Lions fans were expecting to welcome their team back home with a win after their gut-wrenching exit from the FA Trophy at Cambridge United in midweek.

But Eastwood were not about to roll over for their promotion-chasing hosts.

Despite dominating another game, the Lions ended up empty-handed yet again because of a solid rearguard effort from their opponents.

James Walshaw returned to the side after being cup-tied and he, Michael Burns and Danny Ellis all had a brace of chances to put Guiseley in front in a goalless first half.

It was galling for the home side when Francis Green opened the scoring just over a minute into the second half.

The Lions kept pegging away and they did get rewarded with an equaliser when Ellis netted a shot following an Andy Holdsworth free-kick five minutes from time.

Guiseley came close to taking the three points when a Simon Ainge header was somehow blocked on the line in the last minute.

Town snatched their winner deep into stoppage time. The home defence dithered and the ball was seized before being crossed for Greg Simmons to head in.
