Otliensians are guaranteed a brighter future thanks to their new floodlights.

The £60,000 project was completed in the Autumn and the club is planning an official switching-on cere- mony at Chaffers Field next Thursday.

The floodlights have been installed on their second team pitch and will be mainly used for training.

Otliensians received a £44,000 grant from the Rugby Football Union towards the cost of upgrading the power supply to the club and installing the lights.

The remainder of the money was secured through grants from Otley Town Council, and Leeds City Council, donations from local businesses and club fund-raising events.

Club spokesman John Harrison said: “We are hugely indebted to the RFU for the contribution they made to the scheme.

“They were the ones who highlighted the need to upgrade our power supply and a cable had to be run from Pool Road into the ground.

“The project was overseen by our club treasurer Gordon Longellow and we are thrilled with the end result.

“Since we started using the lights numbers at training have boomed.

“They have made such a huge difference because our previous lights were quite literally halogen bulbs."
