Otley-based Renee Saxton has retained her Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross title, which covers 38 miles and has 5,000 feetof ascent.

The New Zealander had another excellent race, finishing first lady (and 189th overall) in 4hr 19min 54sec. Of Otley Athletics Club members, Chris Stacey finished 431st but Don Buffham had to retire near the end of the race.

The men’s race was won by Rob Jebb of Wheelbase in 2.57.11, with Nick Craig (Scott UK) second and Cononley’s Ian Taylor (Craven Energy Tri) third.

The Horsforth 10K – also held on Sunday – was won by Shaun Dimelow of Barnsley in 33min 41sec. Ian Dixon (unattached) was second and Steve Body of Leeds was third.

Andrea Dennison of Bingley was first lady and 30th overall. Otley finishers were Howard Jeffrey (90th), Phil Robinson (129th), Colin Best (184th) and David Cattanach (343rd).

Last Saturday, the demanding Great Langdale Half Marathon attracted about 400 runners.

The race was won by Alasdair Tatham of North York Moors in 1hr 17min 18ssec. Conrad Franks of Gateshead was second and Paul Muller of Horwich third.

Sarah Ridehalgh of Accrington was first lady in 1.27.16. For Otley, Mick Jeffrey finished 72nd (and second M55) and Ralph Haughton 298th.

Also on Saturday, Otley’s Dale Foster finished fourth in the Whernside Fell Race.

Otley AC meets for training at Otley Cricket Club on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.15p.m. and new runners are always welcome.

Scot Gate Ash, above Pateley Bridge was the venue for a regional orienteering event last Sunday.

The area provided fast running over open moorland, but also had some steep climbs, and good navigational skills were needed for the very intricate terrain in the quarried areas. Airienteers had good results on the longest (blue) course: Ben Steven (M21) came first in a fast time of 39 minutes for 4.9km, which included a 270-metre climb, with brother George (M20) close behind in second place in 41 minutes.

Rob Patterson (M21) was fifth, and Louise Markstetd (W20) was first woman. On the green course Chris Penny (M45) was third, Andrew Kelly (M50) fifth and Lowri Jones (W20) was first woman. On the junior courses, Robert Matthews (M10) gave Airienteers their best performance with seventh position on yellow.

Next weekend, there is the Oct-ober Odyssey, a two-day compe-tition in Northumbria, or closer to home there is an informal event on Saturday in Buck Wood, North Bradford.
