Guiseley go into tomorrow's eagerly-anticipated FA Trophy clash with FC Halifax Town hoping to get a win to dedicate to their injury stricken teammate Anthony Lloyd.
The 25 year-old Lloyd sustained a sickening injury in the dying minutes of Saturday’s UniBond League game, at Kendal Town, and needed surgery to reconstruct his knee.
The former Huddersfield Town full-back was an ever- present in the Guiseley side last season as they pushed for promotion through the play-offs.
He started his career with Huddfersfield Town and played 42 league games for them. He was a member of their 2004 promotion winning side playing in the play-off final at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, when they defeated Mansfield Town on penalties.
He later had spells with Torquay and twice with York City before joining Guiseley in July 2008.
The popular Lloyd will be much ,issed by his Guiseley teammates, not just for his onfield skills but also his cheery disposition. He has rapidly become a favourite with the Guiseley crowd.
Guiseley chairman Phil Rogerson said: “Anthony suffered a very serious injury to his knee on Saturday.
"He underwent surgery on Saturday night at the Royal Lancaster Hospital and was to be transferred to Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield, where further operations will follow to reconstruct his knee.
“Guiseley are a club who support their players in these circumstances and we will be discussing matters with Anthony and his family to find the best way forward once the medical position becomes clearer.
“We are currently reviewing the team position and will be taking action prior to Saturday in order to reduce the impact that the absence of a player of Anthony’s ability will undoubtedly have on the team.”
Guiseley take on Yorkshire rivals Halifax at 3pm tomorrow in a clash which is expected to bruing a big crowd to Nethermoor Park.
Halifax include in their side last season’s Guiseley captain Ryan Crossley.
One man with a foot in both camps is Guiseley reserve team assistant manager Stuart Gray, whose younger brother Nick plays in midfield for Halifax.
Stuart, son of Leeds United legend Eddie Gray, is a man who can empathise with Lloyd, the former Glasgow Celtic player having had his career with Guiseley cut short by a serious injury.
Spectators are advised to arrive early for the game as Halifax are expected to bring a sizable following with them.
* Guiseley AFC are to bring together their Wembley heroes of ther FA Vase campaigns of the early 90s when a Wembley Heroes XI will take on the ex-Leeds United XI at Nethermoor Park on Sunday, December 6, at 2pm as part of the club’s centenary seaosn.
