GUISELEY stretched their unbeaten run to eight games and climbed into the top half of the Vanarama National League North table with a 3-0 win over FC United of Manchester.

The Lions broke the deadlock before the half-hour mark, but it was Rowan Liburd’s second-half brace that finally saw off the opposition.

The Mancunians headed to Nethermoor for the Roses clash on the back of a three-game unbeaten run after Tom Greaves had resigned as player-manager and Dave Chadwick had been placed in caretaker charge.

It was Will Hatfield who gave the Lions the lead as he threaded a low shot through a forest of legs in a packed area following a corner kick. The home side took that slender advantage into the break but they doubled their lead a minute after the restart.

Liburd netted his first of the afternoon after a moment that Chadwick and his defence will want to forget. Minutes after the hour mark, following a corner, Liburd netted his second with the Red Rebels’ defence appealing in vain for an offside flag.

Guiseley climbed up three places to 10th following the win while FC United remain in the bottom two.

Lions’ joint boss Marcus Bignot said: “It was a very impressive performance and we’d said in the week that it was important to get back to back wins and to do it in that way, with three goals and a clean sheet, I’m delighted for everyone at the football club.

“I watched FC United against Park Avenue the other Sunday. I think that was the start of their new management team, and they played well.

"They went on from that and would have got three points but for a late Southport goal and then got a draw from Chester.

“We knew that it was going to be a difficult game and we didn’t take them lightly because of their league position. It was a very difficult game – the scoreline suggests that it wasn’t, but in reality it was and that’s why we’re so pleased to have won it.”
