GRAHAM Lake continued his quest to pick up the Fell Runner of the Year award with a fantastic run for Otley AC at the Lothersdale Show.

He used this as his wildcard race to pick up points and despite a tough climb, damp conditions and missing a turn, Lake still managed to come third in just 12 minutes and 31 seconds.

Ilkley Harriers' prolific Jack Wood won in an extraordinary 10.39, while the ageless Antonio Cardinale finished in 28.01 for Otley to secure the first V60 prize.

Several Otley runners took on the challenge of running straight uphill for a mile at the Ilkley Incline.

Tom Pomfrett, on his fell league comeback, was 30th in 9.47, but he was beaten by teammates Lake and Andy Pullan, who came 15th and 20th respectively with times of 9.02 and 9.26.

There were also plenty of runners in the junior races and the combined Otley and Harrogate team were the first girls home in the relay.

Tom Lynch had had his eye on the Yorkshire Downhill Time Trial for months. The event is a downhill fell race that runs through Havok Mountain Bike Park near Todmorden.

At only a mile long, the race is run as a time trial, with each competitor allowed two attempts, with timed runs set off at three minute intervals.

All fell races, including this one, still require some form of climbing, but Lynch still managed to come sixth in 7.24, although it was the peerless Ted Mason (Wharfedale) who won in just 6.23.

Rob Fearnley and his nephew Liam tackled this year's Great North Run to raise money for the Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice in Oxenhope.

A gruelling race through Newcastle is somewhat softened by the inspirational atmosphere created by the crowds and the masses of runners.

Liam burst clear of Rob in the last 200m to beat him by a second and the pair recorded fine times of two hours and 38 minutes.

Finally, a trio of MV60 Otley runners, Colin Best, Don Buffham and Antonio Cardinale, tackled the steep 3.5-mile Bradley Fell Race on Sunday in wet and windy conditions.

A strong tail wind on the way back down aided Best, who finished a minute faster than in his last attempt at the course two years ago.

He came 43rd in 37 minutes and 17 seconds, Buffham was 65th in 43.28, while Cardinale came 70th in 56.19.
