GUISELEY manager Marcus Bignot was frustrated to let a late lead slip in last weekend's draw with Chester, but he has praised the commitment of his players this season, led by influential captain Scott Garner.

Garner scored in the 88th minute on Saturday and Bignot said that the former Boston United man's attitude is reflected in the rest of this season's squad.

The joint-manager said: "Scott typifies all the players that we've brought in, who show good character and a strong mentality. The players want to achieve things here, especially after last season's relegation.

"I think the supporters have seen commitment from the team this season, which is all they ask for, and they will be happy with the recruitment over the summer."

Guiseley travel to high-flying Alfreton Town this Saturday in the Vanarama National League North and Bignot is confident that any emotional attachments will be put to one side on the pitch.

He said: "It's going to be emotional for Russ O'Neill, who spent 10 years there, and we also have the likes of Paul Clayton and Cliff Moyo going back to their old club.

"But we're all professionals, and although it will be nice to see old friends before and after the game, we'll be fully focused during the match."

The Lions will be hoping to end a run of five draws in six matches at Alfreton, with their latest point a source of real frustration for Bignot.

He said: "We consider it as two points dropped, especially given the manner in which we conceded at the end. I feel that as a group of players, we are good enough to go ahead and keep a lead.

"We can still concentrate on the positives. We are doing a lot of good things but we just need to get the balance right between what we do on and off the ball.

"If we can work hard on that, we believe we can turn those draws into wins."

Finally, Bignot sadly announced that one of his players has suffered a potentially season-ending injury, before he had even made his mark in the first team squad.

He said: "Louie Swain has done his anterior cruciate ligament. He hadn't featured yet this season but we were confident he'd play a big part for us.

"We wish him a speedy and healthy return to action and hopefully we can cheer him up with a win on Saturday."
