GERMAN Oscar Otte has surprised himself by reaching the final of the Fuzion 100 Ilkley Trophy.

The unseeded 24-year-old from Cologne has had limited grass-court experience, having only previously played in last year's Wimbledon qualifying tournament.

However, he has won four matches this week, including defeating Australian Jason Kubler 6-0, 7-5 in today's semi-final, to reach the climax of the $150,000 ATP Challenger Tour event.

Otte said: "I came here for a practice last weekend and couldn't hit a ball into court."

But the dry weather and the firm courts, which have been playing excellently all week, have undoubtedly helped the German.

In the final, which will be at 3pm tomorrow, the 6ft 5in Otte will face eighth-seeded Ukrainian Sergiy Stakhovsky, who is best remembered for defeating Roger Federer in the second round at Wimbledon in 2013.

The 32-year-old beat seventh seed Michael Mmoh (United States) 6-4, 7-5 in today's other semi-final.

Tereza Smitkova, of the Czech Republic, will face seventh seed Ekaterina Alexandrova (Russia) in the women's singles final at 11am.

Smitkova, who has hit the ball impressively all week, has become only the second qualifier to reach the women's final after Rebecca Sramkova of the Slovak Republic in 2016.

Alexandrova beat Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska 6-4, 6-3 in her semi-final, while Smitkova despatched qualifier Abigail Tere-Apisah of Papau New Guinea 6-2, 6-1.

The 23-year-old Slovak, who reached the last 16 at Wimbledon four years ago, said: "I am playing at a very similar level to then. I like the grass."

The women's doubles final seemed to be decided by the first point of the super tie-break.

Natela Dzalamidze (Russia) and Galina Voskoboeva (Kazakhstan) lost it on a disputed call and went on to lose the match 4-6, 6-3, (10-5) to Americans Asia Muhammad and Maria Sanchez.
