ANDREW Harm organised a Gentlemen’s Captain’s Weekend for Otley Golf Club which was centred around the main competition on Saturday afternoon, but littered with several more relaxed events.

The conditions were tricky but Charlie Pilling was able to take home the Captain's Prize with a fine score of 66, while Roger Clarke-Coates scored 68 to win the First Division crown.

Nick Cottle and Jonjoe Boswell both shot 67 to win the Second and Third Division prizes respectively. George Muscroft secured the best gross total of 74.

Other winners included: Jason Boswell (putting prize), Fred Forfar (nearest the pin) and Mike Smith (nearest the line).

The players had warmed up for the event in fun fashion on the Friday evening, when a packed clubhouse fully participated in the performance from an ABBA tribute band.

After the main Saturday tournament came a Captains’ Fun Day competition on Sunday, open to all members and followed by a junior contest, with every youngster who competed in that receiving a token prize.

The weekend was completed with another full clubhouse attending the all-day barbecue and prize presentation in the late afternoon.

In a busy week at the golf club, Margaret Mowat could be forgiven for feeling disappointed after scoring 41 points in the Ladies’ Stableford competition.

Her excellent score only secured her the runners-up berth in the second division as she lost out to Zandra Hymas in a count-back.

Results were: Div.1 S Wilyman 39 points; M Wilkinson 37 points; J Shaw 34 points. Div.2 Z Hymas 41 points; M Mowat 41 points; S Kennedy 39 points. Div.3 A Bearpark 38 points; J Thorpe 34 points; M Ainsley 34 points and Div.4 C Lamb 30 points.

In the Nine Hole Club Stableford, the result was: P Joule 18 points; H Dixon 18 points; N Nicklin 17 points.

On a day when 60 members entered the mid-week Stableford competitions, it was Liz Tolchard who won the main event with 42 points. Matthew Grimmitt won the nine-hole contest with an equally impressive 21 points.

Results were: 18 hole competition - Liz Tolchard 42; S Bradley 41; G Pinkney 38. Nine hole competition - M Grimmitt 21; R Clark-Coates 20; P Wilson 19.
