ILKLEY'S head of rugby Rhys Morgan knows that he has a special player on his hands in Ben Magee, and the club's faith in the full back has been vindicated by his call-up to the Yorkshire squad, along with team-mates Elliott Morgan and Joe Lowes.

Morgan feels that Magee is a mercurial talent. He admits that the full back can be unpredictable and a little lax with his attitude towards training, but he more than makes up for it when it comes to kick-off on a Saturday afternoon.

He admitted: "When Ben's in the team you never quite know what he's going to do. Against certain teams, you can almost guarantee that he's going to get you two length of the pitch tries, because the gaps are there for him to run into.

"He's a great player and we have missed him. He's the sort of player that doesn't always look overly bothered. He enjoys his training and he's always smiling and got something to say.

"He can be at the back of the pack on a Thursday night, he can be pinching sweets off me and he can be having a chat about something else when the rest of the team have set off jogging.

"But when that whistle blows on a Saturday, there's not many more that want to win as much as he does and there's nobody that will hurt more if we lose, except maybe my son Elliott!"

Magee made his return from injury in Ilkley's impressive 42-12 away win against Lymm at the weekend and the team go into their last fixture at Kendal high on confidence and looking to secure a seventh-placed finish.

Ilkley have relatively few concerns regarding team selection for that game in Cumbria on Saturday, although scrum half Jack Maplesden may be absent due to work commitments.

Morgan is keen to have as many first team players available as possible, so although the likes of Eddie Brown and Pete Erskine were eligible to play in the Aire-Wharfe Cup last night, they have been ordered to rest up for the weekend clash.
