Gateshead skipper Neil Byrne scored in the final minute of extra-time to knock Guiseley out of the FA Trophy 2-1 at the International Stadium, tonight.

The twice postponed tie was heading for a penalty shoot-out when midfielder Callum McFadzean was booked for a needless foul on substitute Wes York.

The ball was floated into the box where sloppy defending allowed Byrne the chance to score.

Defeat was hard on Guiseley who played with greater than in recent games.

After falling behind to a 29th minute goal by Richard Peniket, Guiseley hit back and levelled midway through the second half through Rowan Liburd.

Minutes later, Liburd limped out of the action to be replaced by John Rooney.

Guiseley's two debutants, the on-loan pair of Adam Crookes and James Roberts, both had good games, but couldn't save their side from a fifth defeat in a row.

To crown an unhappy night for Guiseley, a reserve side boosted by the inclusion of Liam Hughes, lost 2-1 at Tadcaster Albion in the West Riding County Cup. Frank Mulhern scored for the Lions.
