DANNY Lowe, the man whose goal guaranteed a third season in the National League for Guiseley, has signed a new one-year deal.

The 33-year-old defender is a popular figure at Nethermoor and his last-minute equaliser in the final game against Solihull Moors earned the 1-1 draw which spared the Lions from relegation.

Lowe, who operated at both centre back and left back, was sent off twice during the recent campaign.

The former Halifax Town player moved to Guiseley three years ago and featured in the promotion-winning side of 2014-15.

He has made 125 appearances for the club and manager Adam Lockwood is pleased the experienced defender has agreed a new deal.

He said: "I am delighted that Danny as our captain has signed again showing his commitment to the club and its future. He is an important signing for us.”

Lowe is the first of the current squad to agree a new deal for next season. Further announcements are expected over the next few days as manager Adam Lockwood looks to build a squad capable of avoiding another relegation fight next season.

The management team of Adam Lockwood and David Penney are currently reviewing the playing staff.

Last year the club decided to get rid of eight players and that led to the unsettling start to the season which saw the Lions lose their first seven games.

Chairman Phil Rogerson gas confirmed that the club is committed to establishing itself in the National League.

"The aim for next season is to try and get into the top half. We don't want any more last-day survival battle," he said.

"Adam and Dave will be busy working out who to keep and which players to bring in," said Roberson.

"I am sure they want to have a settled squad for the pre-season friendlies so that we are ready when the season begins.

"Obviously, it will be a boost to have a player like Jon Rooney fit again and he can make a big difference for us. He only played a few games before getting injured but has a good goalscoring record from midfield."
