THE qualifying round for Otley's oldest competition, the Waite Cup, was played with the course in superb condition.
As usual the competition encouraged some excellent scoring with David Maybury being the leading qualifier and Roy Dawson the 32nd and final competitor advancing to the matchplay stages.
New member, Leonila Waters, finished among the winners in the second division of the Ladies’ Medal.
Winifred Varley and Helen Grantham, winners of the first and third divisions respectively, had the equal best nett return of the day. e:
Division One: 1 W Varley 92 (19) 73, 2 J Howson 92 (17) 75, 3 M Wilkinson 85 (9) 76.
Division Two: 1 S Hope 98 (22) 76, 2 S Weatherall 104 (26) 78, 3 L Waters 103 (24) 79.
Division Three: 1 H Grantham 109 (36) 73, 2 R Copley 115 (36) 79, 3 K Parker 114 (35) 79.
Nine-hole Stableford: 1 P Joule 13pts, 2 C Walsh 12pts, 3 V Wray 11pts.
Peter Turner (70) won the Mid-week Medal, one shot ahead of, George Muscroft (71), with Gavin Power (71) securing third place by edging out son, Finley, on a countback.
