Guiseley 1 Solihull Moors 1

GUISELEY secured their National League status thanks to a dramatic stoppage-time equaliser from captain Danny Lowe.

The Lions were staring relegation in the face as rivals York City were drawing 2-2 at home to second placed Forest Green Rovers.

But Lowe's header raised the roof at Nethermoor, sent York down, and meant Guiseley had survived on the final day for the second season in a row.

Guiseley goalkeeper Dan Atkinson had earlier saved a first half penalty before Solihull Moors took the lead through Omari Sterling.

"Déjà vu, nothing but relief," said Lowe. "We’ve probably not played our best but we have dug in and showed good character.

"We have had a few ups, and a lot of downs, but we’ve always been resilient and bounced back," he added.

"That’s one thing you can say about us – we never give up until the final whistle – and we managed to pull it out of the bag. The goal came off the back of my head, to be honest, but it’s a goal for the team.

"It's a team game and I’ve let us down at times this season – so it evens itself out. Roll on next season now. The objective was to stay in this league and through team effort we’ve done it."

Lowe’s back header converted substitute Danny East’s cross from the left during the four minutes of added on time. It cancelled out Sterling’s superb first half free kick.

Lions boss Danny Lockwood said: "The game alone really frustrated, and that’s a testament to Solihull for the way they came here and set up. I knew that they would - because it’s what this league is all about.

"I was disappointed with our performance but it’s not easy on these occasions," he said. "You keep going and keep believing.

"I’m speechless really but it’s about everyone connected with the football club. Some, maybe, doubted us but we always believed and achieved our goal.

"I knew from the start of the game not to go 'gung ho'. If you do that in this league you will get punished. We had to plug away and keep believing and, maybe that’s the little bit of luck that we’ve not had? It’s brilliant!"
