OTLEY RUFC's Peter Clegg has made another substantial signing, adding Irish international Guy Easterby to his coaching team to add his experience to what is beginning to look a strong playing squad.
Clegg had Easterby under his wing in the 1990s when both were at Harrogate, the scrum-half playing for the county before moving to Rotherham in 1996 and collecting 28 Irish caps.
The veteran player, signed from Celtic League club Leinster, will be a player-coach for Otley.
Born into a well-known farming family with racing connections, Easterby was educated at Ampleforth where he gained a thorough grounding in rugby.
After a short spell in South Yorkshire he moved to the Metropolis to play with London Scottish but quickly returned to Rotherham to ply his trade again in Yorkshire.
His next move was to Wales where he turned out for Ebbw Vale and Llanelli Scarlets before crossing the Irish Sea to Leinster.
He had a further season at Rotherham before, in 2004, he went back to Leinster from where he has been reunited with his former coach who is expecting Otley to benefit greatly from his expertise.
