Yorkshire Division Three: Old Otliensians 13 Leeds Medics & Dentists 20

OLD Otliensians had enough chances to win this game, but failed to capitalise.

Leeds Medics & Dentists were the better side, playing with purpose, aggression and intent, looking more co-ordinated and scoring three tries to two, but they too wasted opportunities.

From the kick-off, Luke Cowdell gathered and made good ground into the opposition 22, where Medics conceded penalties, one of which Will Cooper kicked to give the home side a 3-0 lead after ten minutes.

The visitors were soon exerting their own pressure, counter-attacking, making turnovers and winning the breakdowns.

A home scrum inside the 22 was pushed back and the visitors' scrum half picked up and darted over for a try.

'Ensians came back into the game and earned a very kickable penalty, but this was missed and a probable 6-5 lead turned into a 10-3 deficit when Medics scored at the other end, despite a try-saving tackle by Cowdell.

On the stroke of half-time, Cooper scored in the corner following good running by Cowdell, to make the score 10-8.

Medics restarted at full pace and soon went into a 17-8 lead after a move involving two possible infringements led to a converted try.

The home side were contending with decisions which seemed to go against them and did not always help themselves with some untidy play.

However, Murphy, Cooper and Ollie Eaves managed to find some room and combined well to make a try for Connor Bateman.

At 17-13, the home side were still in the hunt, but good running by Eaves and Josh Howarth did not yield a score, and a further converted penalty by Leeds took the game away from the home side.

Ali Campbell's arm injury raised fears after his long lay-off and it is hoped that it is not serious.

Medics almost scored again and it is fair to say that with both teams regretting missed chances, the final result was about right.
