West Leeds 47 Yarnbury 3

THE absence of experience personnel was keenly felt as Yarnbury's hopes of avoiding relegation were dealt a bitter blow.

West Leeds are pushing for promotion and exploited the absence of powerful forwards Ian Maycock and Joe Bennett as they cruised to victory.

The makeshift second row pairing of Russ Gomersall and Tom Holden performed manfully but the scrums were vulnerable.

Yarnbury conceded a number of penalties and two of these were kicked to the corner by Kier Breakwell to force the line-outs which led to pushover scores for James Salter and Joe Bedford Breakwell converted both scores.

The two tries sandwiched a converted score from West Leeds captain Sam Neave. He chipped over the young Yarnbury back line and pounced on the ball before the defence could regroup.

Yarnbury did have some encouraging moment with the ball in hand but found the home defence hard to break down.

The best breaks came in the centre from Jason Avison but he was hauled down on several occasions.

Yarnbury's only points came from a solitary penalty kick from George Oldridge.

Losing centre Tom O’Brien either side of the break to the sin bin for a high tackle infringement did not seem to bother the Horsforth side as they prevented the hosts from scoring.

Brakewell increased the West Leeds lead when he helped himself to a try which he also converted.

A bit of trickery and from centre Danny Booth produced another try near the posts.

Yarnbury battle away but could not prise open the West Leeds defence and were further handicapped when Avison went off with an injury.

Further tries followed, mainly from Yarnbury mistakes,as West Leeds pulled further ahead.

Substitute Tony Mammen crossed from close in and two late tries from winger Mark Calderwood rubbed salt into the Yarnbury wounds.

They need to pick themselves up quickly as time is running out to avoid relegation.
