Rawdon Old Boys 1 Pool 3

WEST Yorkshire League Division Two leaders Rawdon Old Boys proved to be a real handful for their Premier Division rivals.

They contributed full to an entertaining Wharfedale & District FA Cup quarter-final clash which was full of open football.

Rawdon struck first when Oliver Nightingale controlled a high ball before placing his shot wide of keeper Andy Doey.

It took two class goals to turn the match around. Richard Bull equalised with a fierce low drive from 25 yards after picking up a loose ball.

Soon after, Grant Bligh capitalised when the home keeper came out to clear and found himself wide of his goal.

The ball fell at an awkward angle and difficult height, but Bligh managed to fire his shot into the empty net.

Pool went on to gain a two-goal cushion on the stroke of half- time when a goal bound effort from Matthew Bilney was instinctively handled by an unfortunate Rawdon defender.

He received a red card and Bilney stepped up to finish the job from the spot.

In the second half, ten man Rawdon threw everything at Pool. Only an excellent save from keeper Andy Doey could easily have got themselves back into the match.

Pool held on to progress, while Rawdon can console themselves in being a credit to the West Yorkshire Division Two.
