Pool 2 Brighouse Old Boys 1

POOL needed a last-gasp goal from Scott Cater to see off the dogged challenge of West Yorkshire League Premier Division strugglers Brighouse Old Boys.

The visitors controlled the first half hour when only some fine keeping by Andy Doey kept them at bay.

Despite this, Pool actually had the best chance when overlapping full back Jack Smith just failed to get his foot to the ball at the far post.

Pool took the game to their rivals and their efforts appeared to have been rewarded when the ball was forced over the line from close range, but the linesman’s flag was raised.

Brighouse responded almost immediately when their striker Peter Kuleczko broke clear to score.

Pool had the best of the second half, but Brighouse were always dangerous on the break.

Pool's efforts were eventually rewarded when Matthew Bliney fired home from close range.

They continued to look for a winner, but resolute defending and sound keeping kept them out until Cater beat his marker before firing an unstoppable shot low into the net.

Wyke Wanderers Reserves 1 Pool Reserves 1

The reserves did everything but win this battle, Grant Bligh giving them a deserved lead. They then missed a penalty, had a clear penalty decision turned down, ending with an uncharacteristic goal keeping error gifting Wyke a goal and point. The two teams meet again at Pool next week, a must win match for Pool if they are not to be dragged into the relegation dog fight.
