GUISELEY are set to pocket a windfall estimated to be around £35,000 from Sheffield United’s purchase of their former striker James Hanson.

The Lions are entitled to 25 per cent of the profit from the 29-year-olds transfer from Bradford City.

And with the fee estimated to be £150,000 plus add ons, the National League outfit are set to cash in.

The sell on clause was part of the initial deal with the Bantams which was set by a tribunal.

City were ordered to pay £7,500 and give Guiseley a friendly as compensation for a player who scored 36 goals in 71 games while at Nethermoor after being plucked from Northern Counties East League side Eccleshill United by former City boss Terry Dolan.

After signing for the Blades, Hanson tweeted: “I’m really pleased@Guiseley AFC have got a bit more out of the deal. I hope they can strengthen and stay in the National League.”

Guiseley chairman Phil Rogerson added: “We are delighted for James and it is a bonus to be receiving further money for him now.

“We don’t know yet how much that will be, but it will be most welcome.

“I thought he would probably stay at City for the rest of his career so this has come a surprise for us.”

He added: “We were all disappointed when he first went to City.

“We felt he was worth £15,000 as strikers in the UniBond League where we were playing at the time, were costing £10,000.

“Eventually we went to a tribunal who set the terms of the deal, and I must say that ever since we have had a wonderful relationship with Bradford City.

“The agreement was only for one friendly match, but they have been bringing their first team down every year since for a pre-season game and those matches have proved to be well supported.”
