Old Otliensians 15 Goole19

OTLIENSIANS suffered a narrow Yorkshire Three defeat at the hands of Goole for the second time this season at a breezy Chaffer's Field on Saturday.

It was their fourth-successive loss but their performance offered hope of for an upturn in fortunes in the weeks ahead.

Goole won the toss and elected to take advantage of the breeze and the low sun. They were soon exerting pressure and only a great try-saving tackle from Jack Howarth kept their line intact.

It was no surprise when they went ahead after 13 minutes. Goole gained a turnover and their speedy winger raced over for a try which was converted.

The lead was extended minutes later when Goole were awarded a penalty and barged their way over the line for another converted try.

It was 20 minutes before the home team advanced into the visitors' half aided by a couple of penalties but their efforts were thwarted by the visitor's sound defence.

Goole came storming back and were camped in the home 22 for the next ten minutes but the home defence was superb. Oli Cooper even stole a line-out, but a third try came right on the stroke of half-time to make the score 19-0.

Otliensians stormed into the attack in the second half with Paddy Phipps and Luke Cowdell prominent. Their efforts led to a try by Kristian Keinhorst which he also converted.

The home team ramped up the pressure and a bullocking run from Rob Arbuckle created a gap for Alex Murphy to score an unconverted try.

Otliensians had their tails up and Goole were on the back foot. Cooper and Sam Featherstone were dominating the line-outs while Joel Wakeman and Arbuckle made good yards.

With good possession to work with the backs were able to bring both wingers into play, but Goole's defence just about held out.

A penalty from Will Cooper was all they had to show for their efforts and Goole were able to cling on for victory.
