Oxenhope Recreation 3 Pool 2

POOL were left cursing their luck after poor finishing and the woodwork proved to be the key features of their West Yorkshire League Premier Division defeat

With the Oxenhope ground covered in snow, the match was played at Keighley's Marley stadium where the pitch cut up badly and the heavy mud not conducive to good football.

Pool got off to a flying start when Josh Wagstaff latched onto a long ball down the left before firing a shot into the top corner.

As it turned out, their keeper became a main player as Pool were unable to capitalise on the chances they created.

Oxenhope equalised midway through the first half, before a perfectly-placed header from Josh Waite restored Pool's lead. They were unlucky not to extend this as a shot hit the angle of the post and crossbar, dropping over the line, but the officials didn't have a clear view.

Pool had plenty more chances to seal victory, but their final efforts were just not good enough. Oxenhope were always dangerous on the break, with one such break resulting in a penalty which was duly converted for the equaliser.

Then, to rub salt into the wound, another break saw a cross turned into his own net by the luckless Tom Bull.

Pool continued to lay siege on the Oxenhope goal, a late corner seeing all their players including keeper Andy Doey going forward, but a couple of goalline blocks, then a final shot hitting the post, just about put the icing on Pool's day.
