Yorkshire Division Two: Moortown 60 Old Grovians 5

THIS was a horrible day and a horrible result for Old Grovians.

The tone was set in the first half, with the visitors only having about five minutes' possession as the leaders were soon running in tries – seven in all before the oranges.

Old Grovians just couldn’t get going but they looked more dangerous in the second half when they saw more of the ball.

The forwards held their own in the scrum after the interval, and they were rewarded with an early try from new boy Stuart Smyth.

Moortown, however, were better on the counter attack, scoring a further three tries.

Overall, this result will not impact massively on the visitors' season.

They will now focus on three winnable home games on the run-up to Christmas – against Old Crossleyans, Barnsley and West Park Leeds.

Men of the match for Grovians were Jaskaran Deu, who showed good discipline and never stopped trying for the 80 minutes; Alex Masterson, who made breaks and big hits despite playing out of position, and James Trenholme, who was tireless in defence and made some important carries.
