Pool 3 Horbury Town 1

AFTER heavy overnight rain, the wet pitch was a challenge to both sides for this West Yorkshire League Premier Division clash.

Pool started well and took the game to Horbury. They created several chances but were unable to find the finishing touch.

A brilliant solo effort by Nick Hewitt eventually broke the deadlock. He beat several defenders in a jiggling run before slotting the ball into the net to give Pool a deserved lead.

The second half saw Horbury come out fighting, giving the strong Pool defence all sorts of problems, and it took a couple of outstanding saves from keeper Andy Doey to keep them at bay.

Pool then eased the pressure when Josh Waite responded well to a blocked shot from Tom Smith by firing the rebound powerfully past the keeper.

Horbury were not finished though, a clever through ball giving their centre forward a great chance which he took well, Doey, this time having no chance.

The last ten minutes became frantic with Horbury looking for the equaliser, but Pool secured the points when a long Doey clearance was cleverly played on by Josh Wagstaff into the path of Tom Fleming. His perfect low cross found substitute Jamie Algar who forced the ball home.
