Yorkshire Division Three: Old Otliensians 29 Baildon 7

POOR tackling led to Baildon's second successive away defeat as Old Otliensians provided all of the sparkle prior to Bonfire Night.

The hosts went ahead in the second minute after Connor Bateman finished off an Ollie Eaves break as Baildon slipped into a pattern of wayward high tackling and silly offloads.

Their line-out options were then reduced as Tom Peel - concussed in this fixture last season - went off with a neck injury that will sideline him for a fortnight.

With 25 minutes gone, a Matt Taylor break gave Bateman the chance to beat Nathan King on the outside for a second try to make it 10-0.

Luke Strauss and Adam Hewitt then made strong runs for Baildon, but the visitors fringe defence was found wanting when Ieuan Cranswick slipped through to start a move that went through eight pairs of hands for Ross Nichols to score and Bateman convert.

Baildon then exerted pressure through their forwards which culminated in a try for flanker Danny Pollard, JJ O'Connell converting in the 34th minute, but tackling was again an issue a minute later as Taylor broke through three tackles to score, Bateman's conversion making the score 24-7.

The visitors dominated the final five minutes but were twice held up over the line, and Otliensians notched their fifth try eight minutes into the second half, Bateman running in his hat-trick try from 40 metres out after full back Kristian Keinhorst had made the extra man.

The remainder of the match was characterised by some good Baildon forward play but poor offloads.
