National League Two North: Caldy 34 Otley 3

AS the score suggests, Otley were second best in this encounter, managing just one penalty while the home side ran in five tries.

This maintained Otley's record of their away defeats all coming against teams who were topping the table.

A damp day which got steadily worse was not to Otley’s liking, while the home side revelled in the conditions, quickly gaining ascendency up front and forcing a penalty on four minutes, winger Jack Lavin duly obliging.

Four minutes later, good approach work split the Otley defence for fly half Rhys Hayes to cross, with Lavin adding the conversion.

Gaining a line-out on the home 22 by way of a penalty, Otley were awarded a second to aloow for full back Tom Hodson to snatch three points, but Caldy quickly recovered, centre Forbes Edwards dashing through to dive onto a slick grubber kick to the line, with Lavin again adding the two before, on 32 minutes, winger Nick Royle raced in at the corner.

Following this barrage, Otley settled but despite monopolising territory and possession for the next 33 minutes, they were unable to pierce a well- organised defence and they found themselves further behind when prop Jack Stagg was driven over at a five-metre line-out to gain a bonus point, Lavin landing his third conversion.

With just a couple minutes remaining, lock Tom Saunders grabbed a fifth try folr the west-coast hosts.
