ADAM Lockwood has vowed to keep on fighting as winless Guiseley try and break their duck at Maidstone on Saturday.

The Lions are rock-bottom of the Vanarama National League after Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Chester left them with just two points from ten games.

A miserable night saw midfielder Will Hatfield sent off late on and substitute Luke Porritt was taken off with a head injury, leaving the Lions to play out the game with nine men having already used their full quota of substitutes.

It was Lockwood’s fifth game in interim since Mark Bower was sacked and the former defender is focused on taking maximum points at Maidstone.

Lockwood said: “We’ve got to keep trying to plug away and continue believing.

“We've got another tough game this weekend but in football you get chances to put things right.

“We've got that and it has to come from inside the dressing room.

“As a group we have to keep focusing on what we want and hopefully things will turn.

“We will have setbacks but it's about how quickly you can bounce back.

“For me, we've seen a lot of progress in a short space of time and Tuesday night was a bit of a kick in the teeth.

“But one thing is for sure - I won't leave any stone unturned and we will go down to Maidstone and get ready to give it our best shot down there.”

Second-half goals from Kane Richards and Tom Shaw condemned Guiseley to defeat and but for the agility of Jon Maxted the margin of defeat could have been even greater.

To make matters worse, Hatfield was shown a straight red card for a retaliatory challenge to leave the Lions with just nine men for the last six minutes.

Lockwood added: “At times the decision-making is hard to explain.

“They have been great over the last couple of weeks but maybe they thought we were starting to become better than we are.

“We have focused a lot over the last couple of weeks on being solid and making ourselves hard to beat.

“It's hard to explain how the lads kind of fall into a trap of thinking they have cracked it.

“By far we haven't and we're a long way from being hard to beat and maintaining that on a consistent basis.

“First and foremost, that's definitely how you've got to be but we definitely weren't. The group need to have a long, hard think about Saturday now.”
