FA Trophy: Dover Athletic 2 Guiseley 2

GUISELEY will look to progress to the last eight in the FA Trophy when they host Dover Athletic in a third-round replay at Nethermoor tomorrow night (Tuesday), but will feel frustrated that they didn’t dispatch their Vanarama National League counterparts at the first attempt.

The Whites got a last-minute equaliser in a 2-2 draw that means the Lions will be in today’s (Monday’s) quarter-final draw as an either or but there will be a lot of those after three of the weekend’s eight last-16 ties were postponed, while two others ended in stalemates.

Guiseley’s at The Crabble was one of them after Dover substitute Duane Ofori-Acheampong scrambled home an equaliser. The Lions had looked to be in control before that.

New signing Emile Sinclair, on a one-month loan from Sky Bet League Two outfit York City, made his Guiseley debut and he was hovering as a James Hurst cross was just cleared over the bar by the home defence.

The deadlock was broken in the 36th minute when some poor defending by the home side allowed Will Hatfield a sight of goal.

He took it by netting a well-struck shot across the face of goal.

Dover levelled the tie on the hour when Jack Patterson controlled a knock-down by Sean Raggett.

Lions’ keeper Steve Drench got something on Patterson’s shot but couldn’t keep it out.

Sinclair thought he had marked his debut with a goal but as he turned the ball into the net, Liam Dickinson was in an offside position.

Guiseley retook the lead in the 71st minute through Gavin Rothery, who placed the ball into the unguarded net after home keeper Andy Rafferty came for a cross but spilled it.

Sinclair made way later, Adam Boyes replacing him from the bench, as Guiseley boss Mark Bower kept the same formation to try to close out the win.

The visitors almost did it but Ofori-Acheampong, who had only entered the fray seven minutes earlier, got the crucial touch from a yard out.

Today’s (Monday’s) draw will be made at Wembley Stadium and there will be a live screening on Periscope via the FA’s official Twitter feed (@FATwitter) at about 11am.

Guiseley or Dover will be ball number six, while FC Halifax Town will also be an either or as their home tie with Chester FC was one of the postponements.
