MOST of the clubs in the area suffered postponements at the weekend as the severe wet weather continued to wreak havoc with sporting fixtures.

The highest profile games to fall victim to waterlogged pitches were Bradford Park Avenue’s Vanarama National League North game and Guiseley’s in the Vanarama National League.

Both clubs were denied home games against promotion-chasing sides in Nuneaton Town and Forest Green Rovers respectively.

Guiseley remain in 18th place but are now only four points above the trapdoor and have played more games than all of the clubs in the bottom four. Neighbours FC Halifax Town lifted themselves out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 victory at Macclesfield, courtesy of Shaun Tuton's 77th-minute strike, and are now within three points of Mark Bower’s men having played the same number of games.

Avenue’s scheduled visitors Nuneaton dropped from third to fifth in the North Division, just retaining their place in the play-off zone.

Bradford slipped one position to 15th and are now on the same points as rivals FC United of Manchester, who drew 1-1 at seventh-placed Tamworth.

Martin Drury will not be too disturbed as his Avenue side still have half of their 42 league games to play and are now the only side in the division to be exactly halfway through their season.

Avenue’s game was called off after an early-morning pitch inspection but the Lions thought they might get their game on.

They were given the go ahead after a 10am pitch inspection but the match referee travelled to Nethermoor early and deemed it unfit shortly after noon.

Brighouse Town lost ground in Evo-Stik Division One North after more than half of the games were postponed.

Paul Quinn’s men slipped one place to ninth but they are still only four points outside the play-off places.

In the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division, two of the area’s representatives were denied any action.

Liversedge’s home game against Clipstone and Thackley’s trip to Barton Town Old Boys were both called off.

Eccleshill United’s home game against leaders Hemsworth in Division One was also postponed, as was Silsden’s against AFC Liverpool in the North West Counties League Premier Division.
